Being a Digital Artist and Still Traditional
Stepping Back to My Roots

Being a 3D Arist, Motion Designer and Graphic Designer for much of my career, I didn't find the need for my foundational skills that started this whole journey. Although much of my childhood was spent drawing, most of that stopped when I got to college. As I explore how to extend my digital skillsets I find that I am drawn to go back to the beginning and spend more time in a sketching mode. Althought I spent a good amount of time sketching when working on YouTube Kids, I hadn't spent enough time in the character realm. Here is a collection of studies on linework, concepts, shading, coloring and character looks.

Building a Moody Wooded Scene for a Lost Robot

There's a story behind this one that has yet to be fully realized. It involves deep moody woods, a lost robot and a frog. This scene was built around exploring moody, foggy environments as well as some post-processing effects to create a rich visual space to tell a story. This was a space I could use some of Unreal's realtime water and although it looks awesome, I still find it troubling to dial in.
