YouTube Kids Branded Logo Animations
Leaning on Delight to Create Fun Branded Moments

Building a mobile experience for a very large scale and public app like YouTube Kids leaves plenty of areas within the app where there are blank screens or empty space. Add to that the fact that when you are in a media delivery business, branding is very essential to differentiating your product from that of the competitors. As a solution to these situations, I concepted a plan to create animated logo experiences that reinforced the brand while focusing on the YouTube Kids' characters.

Bringing the Logos to Life With Vector Animation

As the idea evolved, I took the assets into After Effects and created a playful version of our character Kevin playing guitar in the clouds. The vibe of the animation was exactly on track with a kid-centric approach to branding that I had envisioined to draw kids in and add more depth the character world we had been building. As any project goes, sometimes vision and implementation don't align and the management I was working under wanted something more stripped back and devoid of the characters. Although this was an unfortunate turn, I was able to create the logo drop on the right that was still playful and kid-like without using one of the characters. You win some, you lose some, but it's always successful when you can find ways to ship delightful moments.
